Hej!

DS.

GP

Hi all, I'm writing this in English since my keyboard isn't Swedish. Now to my issue: When reading the list of top WSOP money winners I am a little bit confused since apparently the only money shown is the money won (there is never any subtraction of the buy-in etc). Now, assume that one player buys into loads of those tournaments (say for $20.000 one year) and then gets ITM once that year making $15.000 the end result will be that the player is shown as having won $15.000. I personally think that this is misleading. Is there anyone out there knowing if the profit (total pay-outs minus total buy-ins) can be found anywhere? Certainly this is of particular interest when you have multiple re-buys during a tournament. If you win the tournament but re-bought a number of times, I think that the profit should be indicated somewhere. Feel free to reply on this posting, in Swedish or English. GP

So sorry, it should be "spirituous liquors" instead of "alcoholics". My mistake. GP

Hahaha, bra råd, men varför allt på engelska utom HALT? I have no Swedish keyboard connected to my computer (I don't live in Sweden). It's such a hassle to sit and copy "a with a ring" etc. However, I made an exception with the word "Trött". GP

Hi! Remember HALT - do not play poker if you are Hungrig, Arg, Ledsen, or Trött. Then, at all cost, NEVER EVER play poker if you are under the influence of alcoholics. (My own personal rule is to never play until 24 h after I have had just one glass of wine. With this stringent rule of mine I always make sure to give myself the best conditions for a winning session.) If I were in your situation, I would play FL at the levels you win at, and apparently you win at very high limits. Then, why not play NL at very low limits? If I recall correctly I heard a WSOP main event winner saying that he played FL 50/100$ (he was a winning poker player at this level on the internet) but "only" NL 1/2$ (or maybe even lower, since he said he could not win NL on the internet. However, in a real life casino environment he could beat the NL table game since here he could obtain enough information). Hope that the above can be of any assistance. Good luck! GP

Hi! Sorry to hear that you have trouble making money on fixed limit tables. No, I don't think you are out enjoying a bike ride here! Let me describe a little how I play poker on the internet. I started out in November last year playing full ring games (10 players at the table) fixed limit Texas Hold'em on one table at a time. Quite boring, but very profitable! I play according to Phil Hellmuth's theories that he presents in his book "Play Poker Like the Pros", and this stuff really works well for me. After a few months playing at 5c/10c tables I changed to playing $3.30 NLTH sit&go's (not in Hellmuth's book, I found info on http://www.poker.se) and for the first 100 tournaments I made a 25% profit, the 2nd batch of hundred tournaments were even better, +28%, then the 3rd batch of hundred tournaments and I made -2%! Yes, a loss! I think that this was a combination of some horrendous bad beats, but also that the competition had stiffened considerably. So, in early June I switched back to playing full ring games fixed limit TH, but now I always play four tables in parallel, and this has been a success. I play either 5c/10c (blinds 2c/5c) or 10c/20c (5c/10c) and I bring with me 100 times the big blind (BB) to each table. Thus, when I play four 10c/20c games I bring $10 to each table. Now, the view flop percentage is somewhere between 40 and 70 and this inevitably leads to some bad beats, indeed. Often, maybe 80% of the time, I lose a few dollars before I eventually get back on the positive side. In addition, I have added a stop-loss (only in my mind) at minus 15 dollars total. If I had put my stop-loss at minus 4 dollars I am not so sure that I had been able to enjoy the profit I have made since I would so often hit that level and then stop playing. So far, after more than 60 sessions (taking between 2 minutes and 6.5 hours) I have hit minus 15 once, and once I succeeded in turning things around when I was down at minus 14 and after 6.5 hours I got back on the positive side, phew! Just one other time has been a loss - I had to stop playing after 2.5 hours when I was down 4 dollars. Other than those two instances, I have always finished on the positive side. I have not checked how many hours I have played, but I am confident that since June I have made somewhere between 50c and $1 per hour playing four tables (10c/20c) in parallel. For the 5c/10c tables it has been the same basically, only half the size of the bag filled with dollars, though, and my stop-loss is at minus 7.5 dollars there. I have hit that twice over approximately 60 sessions. Another thing I have noticed is that in the beginning, when I was playing at one table only, I made a profit 75% of the time, however, the losses were generally bigger than the average session profit. It's easier to feel "wow, I've made a dollar, let's bail out!" than, "oh, I've just lost a dollar, let's leave this place now!". Generally you try/hope that greener pastures are ahead when you're behind, thus, the average loss is slightly bigger then the average profit, but when you win 75% of the time, you are still able to make some money. This 75% is also applicable when I play 4 tables in parallel - actually maybe slightly lower since you may not spot all the information on the tables you're not following. Still, this is why it is possible to make a profit almost all the time when you play four tables at a time. The curve is a lot smoother! Another thing I noticed was that in the beginning I crashed tables maybe 5 to 10 percent of the time. With this I mean that it was just not possible to win at a table and I left the table when I was down to less than a dollar. This has become less frequent now, and I think that this is a result of me not feeling bogged down when I have lost half of the money I brought to the table - Experience clearly counts in this business. So, right now I estimate that I will crash tables about 1% of the time. Basically it never happens nowadays. One more thing, due to the very high probability of losing money once you start out, I always give myself at least 2 hours of clean space ahead in my calendar before I commence playing a session. Due to the high number of loose players frequenting these low limit games I don't think I win more than maybe 20 to 30 percent of the pots I am playing. Two good examples from today's sessions: I get AK UTG, and bet, a number of players call. The flop comes 39A, BB checks and I bet, two other players call (including BB). The turn is a 7, BB checks and I bet, BB calls. Another 3 hits the river, and now BB bets! Holy smoke, could a 3x survive all my betting? Yes, BB showed 3T after I called. Let's end this posting by showing you a good beat! I have QQ on the button and raise pre-flop. A number of other players call. The flop is 323 (two hearts), raising and calling, the turn is the Q of hearts, nice! Full house (while others might have a flush), so some more raising from my side. Then, the river, another Q and bang! and I won that pot! BRUTAL! Hope that my information can be of some help for your play, and good luck with your studies. PS. Right now I am building my bankroll only. Hopefully within the next few weeks I will try the waters at 25c/50c. We'll see how it goes. DS. Best regards, GP

Hi all! I'm looking for a pokersite where you can play NLTH MTTs with low buy-ins (say maximum 5.50$, but preferably a lot lower) and where the levels increase slowly. As it is right now the best I have found is $1.10 buy-in with starting stack of 1500 and blind levels increasing every 12 minutes (starting at 10/20). This is rather okay, but is there anyone out there who knows of pokersites where you can find low buy-in NLTH MTTs where the blind levels increase slower (maybe every 20 minutes or more)? Many thanks for any advice! Please, feel free to reply in Swedish.
