Southampton manager Harry Redknapp believes Peter Crouch would add an extra dimension to Sven-Goran Eriksson's attacking options.
The 6ft 7in striker scored his 15th goal of the season in the 4-3 victory over Norwich on Saturday, which boosted the Saints' hopes of staying up after they climbed off the bottom of the Premiership and out of the relegation zone.
"Crouch is a terrific player, and for me, I would have him in the England squad, because he is different," said Redknapp, who sold the forward to Villa for £5m in one of his first acts as manager at Fratton Park in April 2002.
"He would be a great sub, someone to have on your bench.
"There are going to be games where you can't break the opposition down, you can't play through them with the likes of [Wayne] Rooney and [Michael] Owen.
"Then suddenly with quarter-of-an-hour to go, you might be able to bring on a guy of 6ft 7in, and hit a few balls in that box - he gives you such a different option.
