Pros: the weather is awesome, clear sunny blue skies all day, cool at night but still good for shorts and tee shirt. (from Nov-March) 2nd largest city in thailand, yet feels like a small town. Theres so much to do and see, yet everything is so close to you. Good infastructure, there are 6 hospitals here, great roads, an abundances of shops, restaurants, massage parlors and bars Fit birds. Chiang mai has at least 3 universities (i think maybe 5 but I cant name them) which means a lot of hot women. The poker community itself here, all good guys who are fun to go out with, can trust their word and know a lot about a lot of things which makes for good conversation while sober as well as drunk. Not a big "tourist" scene. Phuket is basically designed as one big tourist trap, the redeeming feature about Phuket is the beautiful beaches and the very hedonistic lifestyle you can easily lead there, not my cup of tea so I like the fact that I'm one of only a few falangs that live here. You are not treated like "just another tourist" here. Its better value here than Phuket/Bangkok. You get more for your money here, because its a real city that real thai people live in, and are proud to say they come from Chiang Mai. Phuket and Bangkok are full of people from villages all over thailand who have come to work the tourist scene, hence bumped up prices for everything from food, beer, accomodation and tourist activities. The standard of living is high and the cost of living is low, win win imo. People are generally middle class, wealthy in comparison to most of thailand, so crime is low. I've had phones lost in nightclubs returned to me, bikes left for days in what would be considered 'unsafe' places to park even in England, and no fear of it being stolen. Infact one time I was at the ATM and withdrew 10,000 baht (around £200) counted the notes then put them in my pocket, and walked off, 2 mins later I hear an older guy shouting from somewhere behind me "mr.Josh, mr.Josh?" I obviously turn around and dont recognise the guy, but say whats going on, he had my mastercard in his hand and Id forgot to take it out of the ATM machine! So yeah, I feel pretty safe here! Cons: No beach. While there is a lake with a mini beach, its obvioiusly not the same. Less crazy night life. Thailand has some epic nightlife spots, chiang mai is more of a chill out place and have fun rather than a lets go mad til we cant stand anymore. Im biased so I dont really think I know any more cons! check out these and compare http://wikitravel.org/en/Chiang_Mai http://wikitravel.org/en/Phuket http://wikitravel.org/en/Bangkok Citera Länk till kommentar Dela på andra webbplatser
