Tills dess, happy klonking!

This was the first time that I entered the floors on Casino Cosmopol. It felt very odd and it took a while to adapt to the very special atmosphere that there is at a casino. It was time for my first big poker event, it would be foolish to say I wasn't nervous but I was also looking forward to it.

I sat down at the table and the first hand was dealt, my plan was to play tight in the start and try to get a good "feel" about my table. My first thoughts were that it was a strong table. After a few hands in the muck I picked up a low pocket pair and I limped in. Cutoff makes it 3xBB. I call along with 2 other guys after me. I hit middle set and check it to the raiser which bets. I reraise and he calls with his nutflush draw. He hits it on the turn and I check to him, he bets and I only flat call as the board reads 4 hearts. On the river the board pairs and I push all-in, he thinks for quite some time before he calls in anguish. I double up, and most of my nervousness is swept away. I hit another set before the first break and win another big pot.

After the break the ice age was real, it becomes even more appearant and frustrating when you're playing live and can't seem to find one single decent hand. My table was extremely aggressive so I had a hard time doing any moves myself, and when I did I was shot down. I was getting a little low on chips now and found myself with KJs on the button, no limpers , raised it up to 2,5xBB. My thought was that my tight image would scare them away. I was dead wrong, BB (Bengt Sonnert) pushed all-in and I had a hard decision to make. I ended up folding but when I think about it now I should have called, you need to gamble some to be able to win a big tournament (after he told me he had TT).

Many hands were played and my lack of decent cards continued. I picked up QQ once but everyone folded to me, YAY. Atleast I managed to stay alive to dinner. But I was in real bad shape with only around 10xBB left. I decided to gamble some after the dinner, but it was difficult because the table continued to be aggressive, and I wanted to be first in. I managed to double up once. After a while I found 44 in early position and I pushed after a minimum raise. One guy calls after me with AK, then the initial raiser pushes all-in and manages to get the AK to fold with his TT. No help for me and i'm out of the tourney.

It was a fun tournament and I think I learned a lot from it. I stayed and cheered for Sebbe which played really good during the whole event. It was a long night and finally he ended up at 4th place. Very impressive , especially being his first major tournament.

Two days later we were back, it was time for the main event, and we were both thrilled to play.

I got some decent cards at start, a lot of AQ, AJ which were uncontended. I got a good read of the table fast and everything felt great. now I picked up AQ again and cutoff makes it 3xBB. I call on the button, sb and bb folds. Flop is Ah,Qh,rag. Fi checks and I bet the pot, he reraises and I reraise again to defend against possible flushdraws. He flat calls and when the turn hits he pushes his remainding chips in. I felt obliged to call and so I did. He had QQ and I made a quick departure from the tournament. Sebbe followed my lead shortly after when he picked up KK vs AA.

This was very frustrating because I really felt like playing cards that day and that's when you play the best. Well I wasn't ready to quit so as soon as the cash games began I sat down at a table. Some real nice people were playing and I found myself sitting there untill closing at 5am. But some of us weren't ready to quit yet. We proceeded to Klubben and continued there. It was a fun night with some crazy poker going on :)

I stayed in Stockholm for a few more days, I just had too much fun to leave. In all it was a great week with invaluable experience. I already long for the next event in Gothenburg (Prosharks invitational) , and this time around i'll win! :)

I was really looking forward to this tournament. The majority of Swedens finest players where there to duke it out on a 4 day event for the desirable title "Swedish Champion 05" and the prize of 1 million crowns (approx 125,000$). To be honest I would have valued the pride more then the cash, mainly because of the great starting field and the prestige this title signified.

The tournament was stretched over 4 days, the first one half the field played, including me.

Day1.

My struggle for gold and glory started at one of the inner tables at "Klubben". The temperature quickly rose and I had a hard time staying focused. But I started of fairly well with some nice cards and I steadily managed to increase my stack. After a while I got confident about my play and began to make some more moves which resulted in some more of those precious chips.

Just when I felt I had a pretty good read on the table it was split (rig?) and I was moved to a table in the main room. The blinds were a tad higher now and the players didn't give away any chips without a fight. I was caught on a bluff when I reraised a shortstack that pushed all-in. I called and eliminated him when I hit my K9 vs his 88. After that everyone thought of me as a "bluffgubbe" so I changed gear and took it easy for a while, didn't get very much cards either. Time went by and I were moved once again. This time around I found myself on a crazy all-in table. The blinds where pretty high and people pushed their stack into the middle like they haven't done anything else in their whole life. Then I suddenly found myself with a hand, AK, the best hand I had for a long time. A short stack pushed all-in UTG. It felt like he either had a pair under queens or AK-AJ so I felt inclined to call, especially because of the added value already in the pot. He flipped over JJ but I hit a king (as always) on the turn and the pot was mine. Now I had a nice stack and managed to accumulate some more chips with some odd and unconventional moves, won't go into any details, hehe. Day numbero uno were over and I were happy with the way it turned out.

Day2.

The 2nd day some of my teammates played heat2 and I joined them at klubben to cheer (and disturb) them as much as I could. I ended up in the VIP room after a while to play some cash games. Of course the game was Omaha PL, and as I am a pot limit expert I was sure to make a bundle of all the fishes in the shallow waters of Klubben. Uhm, execpt maybe the fact that i've

only played omaha a couple of times before and the so called fish were Ayhan Alsancak, Ola Brandborn, Ishak Noyan and Koray Saka to name a few. Well, not much positive happend for me that night. My cards were very cold and I was glad when I left the room with any money left in my pockets.

Day3.

After a good nights sleep I was really pumped up for a great day of poker. I had 55k chips with a avg stack of 37k, 14th out of 63 players. My table felt soft and I started to feel confident once again, maybe a tad too confident. I called a 3x bb raise with QJs on the button. Flop came Jxx all in spades. He checked to me and I bet. Another check and I bet 14,000. He instantly went all-in and I got owned. He must have had me beat and I just gave him a big chunk of my stack. I went up and down for a while and when I got J9 on the small blind I decided just to limp vs the big blind. The flop came J8x and I made a small bet. He reraised and I flat called.

The turn came 8 and he bet. After a little hesitation I decided to call which brought me a nightmare river, another 8, giving me the full house 888JJ. Of course I thought the pot would be split but sadly enough it turned out he had four of a kind and scooped home a huge pot on my account. This left me with only 2-3k left and I was in REAL bad shape. Now the mircale begun, I stared down on JJ and went all-in which I managed to win. Another all-in situation quicly emerged when I sat with 89s vs AQ.

KLONK, I hit a full house and I was back in biz and on my way to a new fresh table.

I found myself sitting to the left of Ingemar Backman and my own teammate Sebastian Hägg. After a coupple of hands Backman raised in CO, Sebbe reraised in small blind. I stared down on my cards and I was mazaed at what I found, two fat golden eggs shined up my eyes. I went all-in, Backman folded and Sebbe called reluctantly. Bitter sweet feeling to double up vs one of

your teammates, but what can you do in that situation (AA vs KK in SB, BB). After the hand I had a lot of chips and felt like putting them to work. Won quite a few hands and everything felt great, but just as I started to dream about the final table everything took a prompt turn for the worse. I looked down on ATo and foolishly reraised Backmans bet which he flat called, I hoped to take it preflop. Flop came A97, both checked. On the turn a 6 fell which gave me an inside straight draw, I had to bet and he called fairly quickly (which should have woken an alarm clock in my head). The river came 8 which gave me the straight but at the same time the backdoor flush came which made it a very scary board. Backman checked to me and the first instict told me to check. But for some reason I decided to make a rather big value bet, I guess I were confused by Backmans check. His trap was successful and he pushed. I felt commited as the pot were over 200k and I only had to put in 30k more to call. He flipped over the nut flush and my stack was decimated to less than 100k.

This was the last hand before dinner break and obviously I wasn't very happy. After the break I got moved to a table with some fierce competition. To the left of me sat Johnny Lodden and Andreas Hanemo, both of them two great aggressive players with big stacks. Not the best position ever but I tried to make the best of it. Lucky enough I picked up some good cards and

managed to double up with QQ vs Loddens TT. Still I had a hard time getting anything for free, every time I had the BB Lodden were there to snatch it. If that wasn't enough Hanemo kept firing back at most of my raises preflop. Despite that I managed to survive to the final table with a decent stack of chips left. The 3rd day was over and the chip count were as follows:

1. Johnny Lodden, 429k

2. Ingemar Backman, 347k

3. Lars Kjestrup, 332k

4. FlaxArne, 262k

5. Dan Boren, 239k

6. Daniel Stenberg, 233k

7. Erik Skarp, 210k

8. Andreas Harnemo, 147k

9. Erik Medin, 117k

Day4.

I went into the last day gunning for the precious first place. Unfortunately not much went as planned that day. The blinds were high and the players were extremely aggressive. Especially Lodden which fired at almost every pot in the begining. After quite a while of staring down at mediocre hands at best I tried to steal the blinds with a big raise. I was shut down by

Backman which raised me almost all-in and I had to fold my 7,3o. A few hands later I stared down on 33 and I had to do something drastic as the blinds were really starting to hurt me. I pushed and Lodden called with 99. No help for me and I was out on 7th place, winning 80k sek (10,000$). This was the end of this lil adventure, but don't despair, i'll be back!

I wanna thank everyone in Stockhlom for a great time, the responsible for a neatly run tournament, the dealers for giving me the best cards and of course Bestpoker which gave me the opportunity to attend to this great event and measure my skills with the pros. Also wanna thank my teammates for supporting me in my ups and downs (tilt) and a special thanks to Åse for letting me taste her lucky water.

My next event is Helsinki Freezeout, Dec 12-17, hopefully i'll see you there...

Skit i alla andra, gör mina farhågor till dina och du är on the road to further success.
